1×60 Documentary – W Network, CBC, Knowledge and SCN – 2002
June Wilson, a seventy-four year old, middle-class doctor’s widow with HIV returns to her beloved Kasulu, Western Tanzania to try to break through the prejudice and denial that underlies the terrifying AIDS epidemic in Africa. Mama June is a personal look at the African AIDS situation told from a rare perspective. It turns inside out the cliché of privileged white folk offering succour to less fortunate people and challenges our notion of who has AIDS. And it shows how an ordinary person can make a difference. Mama June is a story where the personal can interpret and reveal the larger truth.
